The Janatha Vimukthi  Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said today the manner in which the Bribery Commission handled the complaint against its Chairman and the manner in which the investigation was dropped were questionable.

He said the Bribery Commission had revealed its decision to drop the investigation to two government media institutions without informing him who was the complainant.

“It is suspicious how the state media published the news on February 9 even before I was informed. When we contacted the Commission, its Director General said they had sent a letter on February 5. Why must we contact the Commission if we received a letter on February 5,” Mr. Handunnetti asked.
He said they had received a letter on February 17 though it was dated February 10.

“We received a letter on February 17. The letter had been sent to the Postal Department on February 14 and the letter is dated February 10. But the Director General said that they sent a letter on February 5, and this raises even more questions,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla and Sanath Desmond)
