The price of a loaf of bread will be increased by Rs. 3 or Rs. 4 soon, the Chairman of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) N.K. Jayawardena said.

“We will increase the price of bread by Rs. 3 or Rs. 4, and the Association will meet in the next few days to finalize on a new price for a loaf of bread,” Mr. Jayawardena added.

A day after stating the bread prices will not be increased the Association announced that they are forced to increase the prices since the Prima Ceylon Pvt Ltd increased their wheat flour prices, Mr. Jayawardena said.

“Prima is our main supplier for wheat flour and therefore we are forced to increase our bread prices by a few rupees even though I said we won’t increase our prices on Monday,” Mr. Jayawardena said.

The price of one kilo of Prima wheat flour has been increased by Rs 4.10 with effect from today. (Sumaiya Rizvi)
