Bogambara comes under President on Jan. 1

The properties and belongings of the Bogambara Prisons in Kandy were expected to be to be handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on January 01, Commissioner General of Prisons Chandrarathne Pallegama said today.

The prisoners of the Bogambora complex are being transferred to the new Prison complex in Pallekele.

“We are panning to hand over complex to the President on January 1. We are hoping to transfer all the prisoners to the new prison complex in Pallekele by the end of this year,” he said.

Further action would be taken in this regard, after the Minister of Rehabilitation and Prisons Chandrasiri Gajadeera arrived in the country, he said.

The Bogambara prison would be opened for public viewing for two weeks to see the historical buildings inside, he said.
