The national center for cyber security the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) warned the local cyberspace users to beware of fraudulent internet banking sites that are on the rise at present.

SLCERT Senior Information Engineer Rohana Palliyaguru told Daily Mirror online that they have received several complaints from certain international banks operating in Sri Lanka regarding fake websites duplicated in their names.

“These racketeers create fake websites and have sent mass mails inclusive of the link to the website they created. Once an individual access such sites, their usernames and passwords are stolen and are used to commit various frauds,” he said.

Mr. Palliyaguru said that they have currently taken steps to block several such sites with the assistance of international CERT establishments. Speaking further he advised cyberspace users to be on the alert of such scams and to take measures to contact relevant banks prior accessing such sites. ( Lakna Paranamanna)
