Be vigilant

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) is advising the public to be vigilant to land slide threats and increase water levels and contact the DMC on 011-2670002 if further information regarding their area was required.

The water levels of Kalu, Nilwala, Kelani and Gin River have increased due to the heavy rainfall.  Several families have been affected in Kalutara due to land slide threats and in Badula and Gampaha areas due to increasing water levels, National Disaster Management Centre spokesman Pradeep Kodippily told Daily Mirror online.

Thunder showers and localized strong winds are expected in the latter part of the day in the coming weeks in the South-West region. The public is advised to take precautions from lighting, the Meteorological Department told Daily Mirror online.

Meanwhile a person in Gampaha was killed today when a wall which had got loosened due to rain collapsed on him.
