The Bodu Bala Sena requested President Mahinda Rajapaksa to establish a special Police unit to prevent anti-Buddhist activities more than one year ago, General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thera said today.

“If the unit had been established one year ago, the on going religious issues could have been prevented,” he said.

“Now we have a place to lodge our complaints in a responsible place. People in this country do not hope to make their complaints in a Police station because there they have to follow a long process.

“This is a Sinhala Buddhist country and the decisions should be taken according to Sinhala Buddhists,” the Thera said.

“The BBS does not think that the unit would be forever. It might continue for three or four years or it can be dissolved within a concern period of time,” he said.

“The responsibility of the Special Police Unit connected to the Ministry of Religious Affairs is to accept complaints. The complaints may come in thousands. It is easy to initialise inquiries in special situations,” he noted. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
