BBS - 969 sign pact on anti extremism

The Leader of Burma’s 969 oraganisation, Ven. Ashin Wirathu Thera and Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera today signed an agreement with the objective of building an Asian region without extremism.

The 969 represent the 24 qualities of Buddhism, inclusive of nine qualities of Buddha, six from Dhamma and nine from Sangha.    

Ven. Wirathu Thera, addressing a news conference organised by the BBS in Colombo said that they have teamed up with the organisation to safeguard the Buddha Sasana and invited all peace loving people from other religions, including Muslims and Christians to gather in this initiative.

“We are not against the Muslims or any religious groups. We are against with extremist groups. I will do anything to safeguard Buddhism” Wirathu Thera said.

Commenting on the religious conflicts in Myanmar, the Thera said that they were not caused by Muslims but the result of the military administration back then.    

Meanwhile, Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said that they would build a peaceful region without any massacre and shootings.

The Leader of BBS, Ven. Kirama Wimalajothi Thera said that they had concluded a great and successful “Sanga Samuluwa” on September 28 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. “From that moment onwards BBS and 969 have taken a step forward towards building a peaceful region,” he said.    

The President of the Hindu Federation N. Arunakanth was also present at the news conference said that they had already had discussions with some Indian Hindu organisations to create a peaceful region. (Yoshitha Perera)
