Bank robber arrested in Akurana

Police arrested a suspect who stole cash worth around Rs.1.2 million from a private bank in the Akurana area in Katugasthota last evening. He had pointed a pistol at the bank manager and had collected the money in to two bags.

The suspect was taken into custody by the police with the assistance of the villagers.

Police also found the motorbike, a fake pistol and a knife that he possessed at the time of the arrest.

According to the Katugasthota police the suspect is a resident of Giranthalawa area in Galagedara. He was produced before the Kandy Magistrate this morning. (Supun Dias)
