Ministry of Co-operatives and Internal trade has advised the Measurement Units, Standards and Services Department to increase the number and consistency of raids on bakeries to verify that the stipulated weight of a bread loaf is maintained.

“We have advised to increase the frequency and the number of raids on bakeries mainly to ensure that bakery owners maintain the standard weight of a bread loaf as well as to make sure that the standard price is maintained. We have received several complaints about bakeries that sell bread loaves for prices higher than the standard amount,” Ministry sources told Daily Mirror Online.

Meanwhile the official also stated that the Ministry has written to wheat flour importing companies, advising them to withdraw the recent flour price hike. (Lakna Paranamanna)
