The Colombo Fort Magistrate today rejected bail for a director of HICORP, a company allegedly owned by the son-in-law of Presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka, and ordered that he be remanded further.

Dismissing the bail application filed on behalf of the suspect Welington De Hoedt, Colombo Fort Magistrate Ms. Lanka Jayaratne observed that there were no special reasons to grant bail on the suspect.

The suspect is said to have acted as a director of HICORP Private Company and was arrested and produced in court by the CID on January 7 for allegedly cheating public money by forwarding the Power of Attorney and other documents to the Sri Lanka Army. The CID began investigations into the matter sequel to a complaint made by Major General Manawadu of Sri Lanka Army and the suspect was arrested and remanded.
