Audio: Bad weather to continue: spill gates opened

The Meteorology Department today said that the heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, would continue until tomorrow.

It expected rains in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and the cities of Galle and Matara due to the active southwest monsoonal condition.

The department said the wind speed would also increase to 60Kmph in off southern sea areas

Meanwhile the Disaster management Centre (DMC) said the spill gates of the Canyon, Upper Kotmale, Laxapana and Castlereigh reservoirs were opened as they reached their maximum water storage level.

The DMC warned the residents in the areas to be cautious of the situation.(DS)
