Australian Naval Ship in Colombo

The Australian Naval Ship HMAS “Melbourne” arrived at the port of Colombo yesterday on a goodwill visit.

Commanding Officer of the ship, Commander Bill Waters paid a courtesy call on Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Dayananda Nanayakkara at the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Colombo, Navy headquarters said.

It said that the two commanders had held cordial discussions and exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill. Defence Advisor of the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka Captain Jason Sears was also present on the occasion.  

The ship will stay here till September 02 and the crew members are scheduled to take part in several special programmes arranged by the SL Navy to enhance the friendly relations between the two navies.
