“Whenever there is injustice caused to the general public by the actions of an individual, I have no bias whether it involves party, opposition, Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims, I stand up for the people to safeguard their interests,” Minister Mervyn Silva said.

The minister made this comment today when he made an observation visit to the piggery located at Ullalapola Athiliyawatte, in Divulapitiya Ranchapola.

The minister made this unannounced visit to the piggery after he received a complaint that the piggery established in this village had created many issues.

Mr. Silva continuing said he was not in favour of the slaughtering of animals in any form and for any purpose, and he spearheaded the banning of animals being killed for offerings in Kovils. Kali Amma had never wanted animals sacrificed in this manner, but those responsible had been doing it just to eat mutton and earn an income.

However there is no issue in people rearing cattle, he added.
