JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, speaking at the party’s May Day Rally, said vigorous attempts by various elements to break up his party had failed, as the JVP with the support of the people had been able to resist their manoeuvres.

He said that that those reformists who boasted of establishing a clean and pure left had now fallen into political dustbins and were lamenting in a helpless manner.

When attempts are made to defeat Imperialism, the imperialists are not going to lie low. They will scheme craftily to disrupt these attempts, he said
The latest front of imperialism is now based in Australia; and the sinister attempt to divide the JVP was one of its first steps, he said.

The rally, which was held at the BRC grounds Colombo, attracted a large number of people. The procession started from the playground at Saranankara Place, Dehiwala and proceeded along High Level Road and Havelock Road to the BRC grounds.(B. M. Gamage)
