A person from Anuradhapura attempted suicide by taking poison in front of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau at Battaramulla. He had a grouse against the authorities for ignoring his requests to get his foreign-employed wife back to Sri Lanka.

He was admitted to the Thalangma Hospital and transferred in critical condition to the Colombo General Hospital.

His sister said that about four months ago her brother informed the Foreign Employment Bureau that his wife was facing hardships and that she wanted to return to the country. However he was not in a position to meet the expenses of the journey that included airfare amounting to Rs.300,000 as advised by officials.

She also said that her brother had been requested to call over at the Foreign Employment Bureau today. However, when her brother came to bureau with his four children and met with officials he had been told to wait a couple of more weeks. She said her brother must have taken poison due to pain of mind. (Muditha Dayananada)
