ATM scammers nabbed

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) took into custody two out of four suspects who withdrew over Rs.14 million from ATMs after obtaining customer information using advanced electronic devices fixed on the ATM machines, the police said

The suspects had fixed the advanced electronic devices which were able to copy customer information from unsuspecting ATM users.

They had then passed on this information to their accomplices in Italy who created forged credit cards and used the information they obtained from he ATM user in Sri Lanka to withdraw money from those accounts.

Two other suspects believed to be of Romanian origin are at large and further investigations are being carried out by the CID, the police said. (Daily Mirror online)
