Gold medalist remanded for robbery

Former South Asian Games gold winning athlete Ranga Wimalawansa and a former Police Constable who were arrested for allegedly robbing Rs. four million from a Chinese national were remanded till November 29 by a Colombo Court.

Two suspects Ranga Wimalawansa and Sumith Weerasinghe a former constable were arrested by Kollupitiya police sequel to complaint lodged by a Chinese woman. During the incident which had taken place at Cameron Place in Kollupitiya on November 1, the suspect athlete had open fired into the air.

A pistol and a motor vehicle which were believed to have been used for the crime were also taken into police custody.

The Crime OIC of Kollupitiya police IP Kulasekara and Sub Inspector Roshan under the instructions of Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake, the Colombo Crimes Division Director SSP Ranaweera, and the OIC of Kollupitiya police CI Mangala Dehideniya conducted investigations.
