Arrested while altering dates of medicines

Two suspects were arrested by Police Walana Crime Division while pasting new labels on expired pharmaceutical drugs packets at Narahenpita today, Police said.

Three directors of the company were also taken into custody.

The raid was conducted with the officials from the Health Ministry Medical Technology and Supplies Division and the Walana Crime Division at a private pharmaceutical importing company.

Police recovered 4,818 boxes of Hydrazone Ointment drug with altered expiry dates and 10,000 cartons to be used to pack the tubes.

Police said that investigations were being conducted and relevant legal action would be taken against the arrested.

Police also advised the general public and the pharmacies to be cautious when purchasing medicines at pharmacies. (Chaturanga Pradeep - DM Online)
