A person who called the Kegalle SP posing as the Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and wanted to take a police constable for his son’s security was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) in Aranayake.

The thirty one year old suspect had given two calls. One to the SP and the other to the HQI of the Kegalle police station, police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said.

Suspicion arose when the police phoned him back as he asked the police to call him after finding a suitable police constable who had excelled during training and while conducting duties.

The Kegalle police informed the CCD about the suspect and through his phone number the 31 year old suspect was taken into custody.

“We advise the public not to fall into traps laid by such individuals who pose as prominent state employees. If the public comes across such foul play or have suspicion of such behaviour, immediately inform the police,” he said.

According to section 399 of the penal code, a person is said to cheat by impersonation. (Supun Dias)
