Army Commander Daya Ratnayake directed senior officers to swiftly conduct inquiries into the arrest of a soldier with Rs.2.7 million worth fake currency notes and support the Police to carry on with investigations in order to find out whether any more of the suspect’s associates, were involved in the fraud.

The Army said that “some handfuls of young men, unaware of the dignity and reputation of the Army, went on joining the Army at the height of the recent war and continue to engage in undisciplined acts of this nature in civil society, thus tarnishing the image of the organization.”

The statement also said that Army Chief underlines that stern action would be taken against such errant Army personnel in consistent with his ‘zero tolerance’ policy on wrongdoers.
