A Sri Lankan was arrested this morning at the Katunayake Airport when attempting to smuggle four gold biscuits concealed in his rectum, Airport Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said.

The arrest was made while he was waiting to board a flight to Chennai.

The suspect, who was identified as a 58-year-old trishaw driver residing in Colombo had revealed that he had smuggled gold to India on seven occasions with the gold biscuits wrapped in carbon paper so as to avoid detection.

Mr. Gamini said the four gold biscuits were valued at nearly two million rupees. He said the gold was confiscated and the suspect released on a bail of Rs.250 000. (Deepa Adikari)
