Controversial UPFA candidate and government Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has charged that three government ministers were among those responsible for the polls in the Nawalapitiya electorate being annulled and a re-poll being called tomorrow.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online on the eve of the re-poll the Minister noted that these three government Ministers together with the opposition UNP and JVP gave false information resulting in the Elections Commissioner calling for a re-poll in Nawalapitiya.

“I say this with responsibility that three of our very own Government Ministers together with the UNP and JVP are behind the move to call for a re-poll,” Minister Aluthgamage said just minutes before meeting Parliamentarian elect and the son of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa who was visiting Nawalapitiya.

An agitated Aluthgamage said that he will be taking up the issue with the UPFA party leader President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as the party secretary and will also publicly address the issue after 21 April.

Speaking on the re-poll scheduled for tomorrow in Nawalapitiya, the Minister said that tight security was in place for the election and urged the public to exercise their franchise and vote and also show the country that the poll is being conducted free and fair. (Daily Mirror online)
