The Angoda Mental Hospital is to relocate 500 cured indoor patients to areas outside the hospital premises, according to Hospital Director Dr. Jayan Mendis.

Dr. Mendis told Daily Mirror online that the patients had undergone long term treatment and have fully recovered but that their guardians had failed to come forth and take over responsibility and that there are a further 200 patients who have fully recovered but are compelled to stay back at the hospital for lack of a home to go back to.

He added that the aim of the relocation is to get cured patients familiar with society and that the hospital will take stricter measures in future when registering patients and their guardians.
