Ammo recovered in Batticaloa

Intense questioning by the Batticaloa Police Special Crimes Unit yesterday on a suspected LTTE cadre who was arrested in the area had led to the recovery of a number of hidden arms and ammunition in Vavunathivu.

Amongst the items found had been one 5.5 mm sniper gun, 40 rounds of live bullets, 4 foreign manufactured hand grenades, three hand grenades manufactured in Sri Lanka, 22 anti personnel mines and 2kg of C4 explosives.

Police in Batticaloa are conducting further investigations. (RR)
