The Akon concert which was to be held in Colombo is likely to be shifted to the Maldives and the organizers of the concert are already having talks to that effect, sources told Daily Mirror online.

With the government rejecting a visa to the US R&B singer on the basis that one of his videos disrespected Buddhism, organizers of the concert are now in the Maldives in an attempt to have the singer perform there.

However sources added that last minute talks are still underway with Sri Lankan authorities to have Akon perform in Colombo after he tenders an apology over his controversial video or go ahead with the concert minus Akon and with the other singers billed to perform including Kelly Rowland, Pit Bull and Jay Sean.

The government had rejected a visa for Akon after a furor was created over the video for the track “Sexy Chick” which showed scantily clad women dancing around a statue of the Lord Buddha.

Akon had later released a statement saying he was disheartened over the future on the video and added that he was not aware of a Buddha statue appearing on the video while organizers clarified that the video was created by DJ David Guetta and not Akon. (Daily Mirror online)
