Airport worker arrested

AAirport Customs arrested an airport electrician who attempted to take away gold worth close to Rs.7 milion and was arrested while taking the gold by hiding it in his two knee guards, the customs said.

The officers had received information about his suspicious behaviour and he was monitored by CCTV cameras installed inside the terminals.

Following his arrest he had confessed that the gold was given to him by an Indian national who had arrived in Sri Lanka from Singapore.

The gold was confiscated and the suspect was released after a fine of Rs.100,000 was imposed on him. (Deepa Adikari)
