A 31-year-old Afghan tourist drowned while bathing in the sea behind a hotel in Eththukala area in Negombo last evening, police said. He had been a guest at the hotel during the past couple of days.

They said a rescue operation with the support of lifesaving groups of the area was underway in search of the victim’s body. Eththukala tourist police are conducting further investigations.
