The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday ordered teledrama actress Anushka Sonali Sayakkara to pay Rs.1,000 as state costs in a case involving an attempt to extort a sum of Rs.100,000 from her father.

When the case came up before Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, defence counsel Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara informed Court that the actress would not harass her father and moved Court that a lenient punishment be given her. Defence counsel further said that his client would not go to her father’s house again.

The father of the actress did not object to the proposed settlement. Accordingly, the actress was ordered to pay a sum of Rs.1,000 as state costs.
The father of the actress had lodged a complaint with the Slave Island police to the effect that his daughter had extorted a sum of Rs.100,000 and attempted to extort a further sum of Rs.100,000 by means of threats.  (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
