Over 100 complaints have been received regarding the corruption and malpractices of the forty eight local government bodies in the Western province, Commissioner of Local Government Services H. Sumanapala said.

Out of all the local government bodies, the highest numbers of complaints have been against Maharagama, Kaluthara, Divulapitiya and Peliyagoda. Some of the complaints have been made by the members of the ruling party itself in addition to those from the general public.

Accordingly, corruption, irregularities, financial frauds, violation of tender procedures, arbitrary recruitments, bribery and administrative bulldozing have been cited against the local government members, the Commissioner said

The complaints were due to be investigated after their submission to the Local Government Investigations Director. The investigations regarding some bodies have already been completed and action had already been taken against the Colombo Municipal Council and Panadura Municipality, Commissioner Sumanapala added.
