Action against illegal firearms

The Police Elections Desk warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who possess illegal fire arms and investigations to probe allegations on the use of illegal arms have commenced and the suspects will be arrested.

Head of the Police Elections Desk DIG Gamini Navaratne requested all the political party organizers to prevent their supporters from using illegal firearms and explosives as several incidents has been reported in the last few days.

The Police Elections Desk has so far received 274 complaints related to election violence and 244 suspects has been arrested for violating the elections law, head of the police elections desk senior DIG Navaratne said.

“We are seeking the help of each candidate in order arrest nearly 200 individuals who are wanted by the police for violating the elections law”, he said.  (SD)
