Action against errant principals

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane charged today that the principals of some leading schools had secured human and physical resources in excess of the required amount to their schools by providing false information to the Ministry.

The Minister said that he would appoint a special investigation unit to take action against such errant principals.

“These principals have misled the Ministry. They submit timetables asking for more teachers though there is no such need in reality.  In the absence of a mechanism to ascertain the veracity of such information, the Ministry accepts it as genuine. Yet, they have purportedly done it to avoid the transfer of teachers   from their schools. We have found instances where some teachers have worked at the same place for years,” he said.
