The All Ceylon Government Medical Officers’ Association (ACGMOA) today condemned the arrest of 4 of its activists who were distributing leaflets in Matara against the introduction of private medical universities in the country.

The ACGMOA allege that the phones of the medical students who were taken into custody were deactivated and that the medical students were questioned by the police for several hours.

Further they said that a large number of leaflets that were meant to be distributed were also taken to police custody while the students were threatened not to distribute the leaflets in the future.

The AGMOA pointed out that there is no necessity to introduce private medical universities in the country and their campaign against the introduction of these universities cannot be stopped by government suppression. (Daily Mirror online)
