Accident in Balapitiya injures three

Three pedestrians including a schoolgirl and a teacher waiting for bus by the roadside were knocked down by a car at the Beratuduwa Junction in Balapitiya this morning.

They were immediately admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital.

Hospital sources said that two of them who were in serious condition were transferred to the Karapitiya Hospital. It is alleged that the Galle bound car had attempted to pass the bus that was stopped by the roadside and knocked down the victims.

The residents of the area said the Police STF that rushed to the scene and took the car to the Ambalangoda police. The relatives of the injured said that the number plates of the car were removed at the police station.  

However a senior police officer said that the number plates had been destroyed in the accident. The injured were a student of Balapitiya Revatha National College, a teacher and a woman working at a garment factory in Ambalangoda.
