A minor employee of the Sevanagala Hospital was taken into custody on suspicion for poisoning the storage tank of the Medical Officer in-charge, Dr. Chaminda Vitharana’s official quarters.  He said he did so at the instigation of another doctor.

Residents of the area who ran amok after hearing about the incident staged protests demanding the immediate transfer of the doctor involved in the incident.

They said Dr. Vitharana was a popular officer who attended to patients at any time of the day and that he was a challenge to the doctors who were running private medical centres.

They condemned the alleged incident which they claimed was a dastardly act. A senior official of the Sevanagala Hospital said the doctor wanted in connection with the incident had absconded. (Ajithalal Shanthaudaya)
