Won’t charge fees from passengers under quarantine: Army

No fee would be charged from the passengers who are directly being sent to quarantine centres in Punani and Kandakadu, Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.

He said on a directive of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Tri-services are facilitating the quarantine process in the East with Health Ministry and Ministry of Defence officials and would not levy any fee on passengers.

“The Army is closely supervising arrangements in the East,” the Commander said.

The tri-services in close collaboration with Health and Defence Ministry authorities have finalised arrangements to quarantine foreigners and Sri Lankans arriving in the country from Italy, South Korea and Iran with effect from today.

Media reports earlier said that a fee of Rs.7,500 charged from each passenger undergoing quarantine.
