Will not support the new COVID Transport Policy: Private Bus Associations

Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association (IPPBA) yesterday informed the Transport Ministry that they will not support the new COVID Transport Policy which is to be introduced today.

Addressing media yesterday IPPBOA Secretary Anjana Priyanjith said the new COVID transport policy is better for the bus owners who used to run their buses using Kerosene.

“The Ministry had discussions with fake private bus associations. Those associations do not need any fuel or any other concessions because they use Kerosene,” he said.

The new COVID-19 Transport Policy will be introduced today by the Transport Ministry.

"As a genuine bus association, we need either a diesel concession or a bus fare revision because we do not use Kerosene," Mr. Priyanjith said.

Meanwhile, IPPBA President Sarath Vijitha Kumara said a mechanism could be introduced to raid those buses which use Kerosene.

“Yesterday, only 10 per cent of the buses were in operation due to lack of passengers. Not enough money was collected even to fuel buses,” he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
