Wheat flour companies will be brought down to their knees: Buddhika

Wheat flour companies would be brought down to their knees just as we did to milk powder companies if they try to increase wheat flour prices arbitrarily, Industry and Commerce acting minister Buddhika Pathirana said yesterday.

He said two wheat flour companies had increased wheat flour prices despite warnings to them by the Attorney General not to do so.

Speaking at a function held at the BMICH the acting minister said that he had instructed the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to raid shops where wheat flour is sold at increased prices and to arrest such traders and added that 51 such places had been raided in a three-hour period yesterday.

He said there was no need of being the subject minister if he could not control the actions of wheat flour companies. (Ajith Siriwardana)
