Wearing face masks in public places is no longer a mandatory with effect from tomorrow, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
However, it is preferable that people who are suffering from respiratory disorders wear a face mask. This direction does not prevent people from wearing face masks as per their wish.
A letter on this was issued by the Health Services Director General, Dr. Asela Gunawardane, said the performance of the COVID-19 PCR test or Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) should not be done as a screening test.
The regulation was made under the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance No. 03 of 1897, published by the Health Minister by Regulation No.100, published in the Extraordinary Gazette Notification bearing No. 2264/69 dated 2022.01.25.
Accordingly, previous press releases/directions/circulars/guidelines/letters issued on COVID preventive measures unless amended/repealed are in force except for the following directions, which will be effective from June 10, 2022. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
