Water levels of Kalu, Nilwala, Gin rivers increase

Water levels of  the Kalu, Nilwala and Gin rivers and Attanagalu Oya are increasing due to the heavy rains experienced, the Disaster Management Centre said (DMC) today.

According to the Irrigation Department, the water levels of Kalu River at Millakanda and Ratnapura had reached spill level.

"Water levels of Nilwala River at Panadugama, Gin River's water level at Thawalama, Baddegama and Attanagalu Oya's water level at Dunamale had reached spill levels last night," it said.

It said Akuressa-Kamburupitiya, Akuressa-Siyambalagoda, Akuressa-Kadduwa, and Kadduwa-Malmabada roads were flooded and requested residents to be vigilant due to increase of water levels if the rains continue.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department said prevailing heavy weather condition is expected to reduce by some extent temporary in the south- western parts of the island.
