Water level in major irrigation reservoirs rises to 66%: Irrigation Dept.

The water levels in the major reservoirs have risen by 66% as a result of the recent heavy rains, according to the Irrigation Department.

They said the existing water capacity is sufficient for the upcoming Yala season.

The South-West monsoon has begun, with catchment areas receiving 25 to 30mm of rain, and it is hoped that reservoir water levels will rise.

The department is hopeful that there would be a possibility of increasing the hydro power generation by May if the expected rainfall in the hydro catchment areas. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
