Water bills can be paid online, no disconnections: Water Board

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) today requested the consumers to pay the monthly bills using online payment facilities and also said that there would be no disconnections of water supply.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, NWSDB Additional General Manager (Billing) Piyal Pathmanatha encouraged the people to pay the monthly bill as soon as possible via online methods.

However, the Government had requested the NWSDB not to disconnect the water supply if anyone failed to make payments for the water consumption, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

This will be applicable to the areas where the police curfew is in force and Mr Pathmanatha said even though the domestic monthly billing amount exceeds Rs.15,000, the water supply will not be discontinued.

"We have already identified the consumers who exceeded the monthly billing amount of Rs.15,000 and most of them have been informed to pay at least a part of their bill. People who didn't receive a bill can pay the amount mentioned in the bill issued for the previous month for the time being,” he said.

“The domestic water usage has considerably increased when compared with the usage of the previous month. Companies, factories and other industrial organisations recorded a low billing rate compared to the previous months,” he said.

However, the AGM (Billing) requested the consumers to use the water wisely and sparingly.

The issuing of water bills which had been stopped temporarily had now resumed even in the police curfew imposed areas.

"Therefore, the consumers can pay their bills by logging on to the NWSDB official website or through mobile Apps,” Mr Pathmanatha said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
