A 34-year-old suspect who is in the police wanted list, has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining injuries during a police shooting at Welewatta in Wellampitiya this afternoon, Police said.
Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the police had launched an investigation to arrest the suspect wanted over several crimes including robbery and snatching chains.
The Wellampitiya OIC and a team including the Crimes OIC raided the house on a tip off.
DIG Rohana said the suspect was shot on the leg while he attempted to hurl a bomb at the policemen.
He said further investigation are underway to arrest several other suspects in connection with the incident and the Wellampitiya Police are conducting further investigations.(DSB)
