Violating the quarantine regulations has been labelled as treachery by the Police.

The Police said there have been incidents of quarantine regulations being grossly violated in some areas.

In at least one incident, the Police were told that individuals in home quarantine had removed the notice pasted on their walls by health authorities, left the house and later returned and pasted the notice once again.

The Police said that there have also been reports of the public in some areas refusing to undergo a PCR test or antigen test.

Speaking at a media briefing, police Spokesman, deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that people who violate the quarantine regulations have no love for the country.

He said that anyone violating the quarantine regulations can be seen as traitors by the country.

The Police Spokesman said that strict legal action will be taken on those violating the quarantine regulations.

DIG Ajith Rohana reiterated that that under the existing law, anyone found violating the quarantine regulations will face a three-year jail term or a fine.

He also said that the property of the accused can also be seized under the quarantine regulations.
