Police Media Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera requested the general public yesterday to video election law violations if they notice any such incidents and post them on social media such as Facebook.
He further said that the police also expect to video such violations and investigate the incidents on social media.
Such information derived will be sent to the Elections Commission.
The display of propaganda hoardings at presidential election offices except for one office in each electorate is banned, he reiterated. If the office that displays such hoardings is within 500 metres of any polling centre, those hoardings should be removed or should be covered so that it cannot be seen from outside.
Except for public transport, private transport is not allowed to transport voters. Display of election symbols close to the polling centres, behaviour that influences the voters and undue influence on them is illegal according to the police spokesman.
He stated that the behaviour of people in such a way that the polling officers are disturbed, making loud noises and switching on radios or televisions are banned. According to the request of the spokesman, the voters should not carry mobile phones; they can bring their ballot papers and valid identity cards.
