Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera who played a pivotal role in the election of this government said yesterday the collective of trade unions formed against the move to alienate the Eastern Container Terminal of Colombo Port could become a formidable force against the government unless it acted wisely.
Making his remarks to the media after an event, he said a large number of trade unions had joined forces against any move to the involvement of India in the development of ECT.
He said it would snowball into an anti-government force unless the government listened.
Ven. Nalaka Thera spearheaded the National Rights Movement at that time and played a vital role in the formation of public opinion against the Yahapalana government.
