Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has warned that it has received information on a series of Valentine parties organised through the Facebook and the internet during the next weekend and that it could worsen the prevailing threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
Editor of the GMOA Dr. Haritha Aluthge told the media yesterday in Colombo that the organisers were already inviting the public through Facebook and the Internet to the parties held at different places in the cities and in the outstations.
“The number of participants would not be restricted by them. At present only wedding receptions, subject to restrictions, are allowed. However, the Valentine parties, if allowed by the authorities regardless of its health hazard would further aggravate the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic,” He said
He requested the authorities to have a check on the proposed Valentine parties and to reconsider any decision to allow them.(Buddhika Kumarasiri)
