The vaccination drive for all those who are aged between 15 and 19 could commence within the next two weeks, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said today.

He said the adolescents would be vaccinated with Pfizer which requires to maintain the recommended storage temperature conditions.

“We also need to prepare and accustom the hospital staff for this purpose unlike for other vaccines. Therefore, it could take some time for that,” he said.

“The discussions are also underway with Regional and Provincial Health Directors to arrange suitable locations to provide the vaccines,” he added.

However, the State Minister assured that vaccination drive could begin within the next two weeks.

Moreover, the Minister of State invited the parents to encourage their children without hesitation to receive the jab.

The decision to vaccinate the relevant age group was taken following recommendations by the experts’ committee appointed to give its recommendations. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
