VAT pushes cigarettes prices up

Prices of cigarettes were increased from midnight yesterday with the implementation of the 15 per cent VAT from today, the Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) said.

They said the price of a Gold Leaf was increased by Rs.8, Dunhill by Rs.10 while the price of a Bristol was increased by Rs.5.

After the price increase, the new price of a Gold Leaf would be Rs.50, Dunhill Rs. 55 and a Bristol Rs. 35. There is no increment of the Capstan brand of cigarettes. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
