The Power and Energy Ministry had decided to provide continuous power supply, unless any emergency situation arises at the power plants, Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera today said.

Addressing an event held at the Fort Railway station yesterday, the Minister said as a Government, we had decided to provide uninterrupted power supply even during this drought situation.

Several incidents had been reported recently regarding power failures in several parts of the country. Those incidents were not related to power cuts but due to repairs carried out to restore power supply.

The Minister also said that the Ministry had decided to launch several new power plants in several areas in the country within the course of this year.

"The Ministry will take measures to convert the Electricity Board a profitable enterprise by the end of 2023 and would take measures to reduce the electricity bill by 2024," Minister Amaraweera added.(Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
