High Commissioner, in his earlier address to the ongoing sessions of the UNHRC said the SL Government’s efforts to implement its commitments in Resolution 30/1 will require a comprehensive strategy on transitional justice enabling it to pursue different processes in a coordinated, integrated and an appropriately sequenced manner.
“This will require the inclusive and meaningful engagement of all Sri Lankans. I will present an update later during the session,” he said.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe will also attend the sessions.
The UNHRC resolution co-sponsored by Sri Lanka, urged the government to address accountability and human rights issues and to set up up a judicial mechanism to investigate allegations of human rights violations during the final stages of the armed conflict.
The Government has also proposed the setting up of an Office of Missing Persons. (Kelum Bandara)
